Demographic change is no longer a future projection. It is already reshaping how we work, consume, save, care for our health, organize companies and think about society.
During The Shift Forum 2026, leaders from companies, international organizations, academia, entrepreneurs and specialists agreed on a central idea: the challenge is no longer understanding what is happening. It is bringing it into decisions.
That is why we propose a shared agenda based on six principles.
Demographics must be part of long-term decisions by companies, governments and institutions, just as technology, sustainability and the economic context are today.
A longer life requires revisiting traditional models of education, work, retirement, savings and wellbeing. Linear paths are giving way to lives with multiple stages, transitions and reinventions.
Never before have so many generations coexisted in organizations and markets. Integrating them means fighting ageism, promoting mutual learning and designing cultures that leverage diverse capabilities.
Technological transformation and demographic change are happening simultaneously. The challenge is not only adopting artificial intelligence, but developing capabilities so people of all ages can work with it.
Changes in birth rates, longevity and household structure are transforming demand. Health, finance, housing, education, consumption and services must respond to populations different from those they were originally designed for.
Data already shows the scale of the transformation. The next stage requires measuring, experimenting, sharing learnings and turning demographic intelligence into concrete decisions.
Those of us who adhere to this declaration believe that understanding demographic change is only the beginning. The real challenge is designing organizations, markets and societies capable of responding to it.
And we want to be part of that transformation.
